Jana Solfronk / Craft MA

I work with diverse materials, mainly clay but also wood, metal, concrete and polymers. I am interested in the power of art and impact of multiples. Photography and collage are my main research tools. I use them to translate my ideas into 3D objects, to communicate my concepts and visions.

At the core of my practice is the continued investigation and exploration of my identity through visual narratives. I graduated from the University of Brighton BA (Hons) 3D Design & Craft in 2018.

My small-scale monuments and material experimentation reflect my personal experience of a regimented and disciplined upbringing in the Orwellian world of Communist Czechoslovakia. My work ‘Blocs’ is intended to provoke curiosity and evoke conversations. I am narrating my witnessing of the Velvet Revolution in Czechoslovakia in 1989. My materials are specifically symbolic to the era lived behind the Iron Curtain.
