CRACKS AND PHOTOGRAPHS is an ongoing archive of found images appropriated from the internet. The photographs are retrieved using search engines such as “google images” and the specific search term “cracks” including any variants thereof. While from a variety of websites each image implies illustrative, demonstrative and instructive imagery, resulting in a seemingly shared utilitarian aesthetic. The archive aims to defamiliarise the images from their original properties. This decontextualisation is made in an attempt to allow the viewer a new and foreign fine art perception of the individual images, as well as encouraging new connections amidst the catalog, considering the search term which ironically amalgamated the series originally.
