Jane Andrews / Fine Art MA

I make large narrative paintings and mixed media sculptures. My work plays with character, identity and survival strategies to understand, interpret and laugh at the complexities of life. The paintings evolve organically; I approach each composition as a conversation between myself and the viewer. Using symbolism, both established and personal and without definitive beginnings or endings. With the sculpture I’m looking for allegorical one liners that straddle ecological, psychological and existential. I am interested in the stories we construct and how these distract us from the fact. I look for humour to subvert and the ridiculous in the heroic.
